McGuire Textiles Launched With Headlands Collection | January 2004
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 28, 2004) - Widely recognized as a premier manufacturer of designer furniture in rattan, bamboo and solid teak, McGuire has introduced a major new line extension to meet customer demand. McGuire Textiles features an initial collection that challenges the conventional wisdom on outdoor fabric with eye-catching colors and sumptuous textures.
Inspired by the qualities and sophistication of rich indoor fabrics and the natural hues of the outdoors, McGuire has refined traditional weaves and developed a smart color palette of new neutrals and pastels. The new weaves and fresh color palette blend with and enhance the existing McGuire aesthetic, which has traditionally included other finely woven materials and textured finishes.
For its initial introduction, McGuire's Headlands Collection features a palette inspired by the natural beauty of the Northern California coast and the San Francisco Bay area. The collection includes 39 fabrics, all offering a surprisingly soft hand that makes them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
McGuire has engineered the new collection to represent the finest outdoor fabrics in the industry: soil- and mildew-resistant, 100% solution-dyed acrylic and a three-year warranty against fading.
The Headlands Collection includes five distinct weaves: Textured Solids; Checks; Woven Stripes; Ottoman Weaves and Chenille. Each group relies on interesting colorways, subtle patterns and a unique softness to create qualities not seen in outdoor fabric to date.
The group of Textured Solids displays a finely woven pattern, called a three-by-two weave. Rather than one color thread, McGuire's Textured Solids rely on subtle combinations of color to add depth and character. The result is a palette of 13 soft, muted colors ranging from a natural Sand Dollar to a fresh Cypress to a rich Plum.
An assortment of Checks displays a vibrant yet subtle pattern of diagonal pinstripes. The finely woven quality of the threads results in a modern herringbone effect to create play and interest. The inventive pattern is available in nine colorways from an earthy Limestone to a warm Sunset.
The Headlands Collection's Woven Stripes are anything but ordinary, pairing a tightly woven stripe with a more open weave. The effect is created using a slub yarn, new to outdoor fabric and traditionally used in fine linens. The stripes are shown in four colors, from a tranquil Dune to a bright Summergrass.
The collection's sophisticated Ottoman Weaves feature this traditional pattern, usually reserved for fine indoor fabrics, now available for the outdoors. The familiar ribbed or corded texture is both refined to the eye and luxurious to the hand. There are nine colors in the Ottoman Weave group, including a spicy Aubergine and an organic Moss.
Perhaps the most surprising of the Headlands Collection is the Chenille. By developing a new yarn, McGuire becomes the innovator of a luxurious new outdoor fabric. Like the warmth and lushness of traditional wool chenille, McGuire's new buttery outdoor Chenille offers the same textile qualities with all the necessary durability. The group includes four colors including a warm Desert and a fresh Clover.
As the first collection under the McGuire Textiles banner, the Headlands Collection captures the best features and benefits of both premium indoor and high-quality outdoor fabrics. The collection presents a sophisticated selection of fabrics with the hand and comfort of indoor fabrics and the UV and stain resistance of better-quality outdoor fabrics. These "best of both world" qualities make McGuire's new fabrics ideally suited for the very environments where McGuire furniture is so often placed.
McGuire was founded more than a half-century ago, and its name is synonymous with style and elegance. McGuire's first major line extension came in 1997 with the company's initial entrýe into the lighting market. Since then, McGuire Lighting includes a wide array of table and floor lamps hand-crafted in copper repoussý and cloisonný. This dedication to artistry and bringing only the best to market is evident again in McGuire Textiles.
"McGuire has always been known for the integrity of our materials and the presence of our designs. This entrýe into textiles certainly lives up to our own high standards and gives designers and consumers alike the perfect fabric option for McGuire and other fine furniture," said Jason Phillips, president of McGuire.
McGuire Textiles will be available in yardage and as specified on McGuire furniture starting in Spring 2004 at the McGuire showroom in San Francisco, at select Baker Knapp & Tubbs showrooms and other fine wholesale showrooms nationwide.
