McGuire Presents Indoor Furnishings With European Flair By Designer Jacques Garcia | April 2008
San Francisco (April 2008) Internationally famed designer, Jacques Garcia, renowned for his ground-breaking residential and commercial design projects, has collaborated with McGuire to produce two stunning new collections: The Jacques Garcia Collection and The Jacques Garcia Outdoor Collection. Both compilations reflect Garcia's flair for combining organic materials with dramatic forms, forms which pay homage to classic, well-recognized styles but which have a firm foothold in the modern world.
The Jacques Garcia Collection, made up of 14 pieces, is designed specifically for indoor spaces. The collection consists of an array of lounge, dining, accent pieces and occasional tables. Expertly rendered in a rich mix of woven rattan, metal and stone, this collection reflects Garcia's affinity for exquisite lines and resilient natural elements. An avid antiques collector, Garcia was inspired by the classic silhouettes and well-loved forms that have become standards in the design world. With these pieces for McGuire; however, he has added his own flair for drama and proportion to make them passionately avant-garde.
"Garcia has taken historically significant forms and re-interpreted them by paring them down to their most basic elements," commented Jason Phillips, President- McGuire. "By crafting these pieces out of natural fibers and organic materials, he has made them fresh and very appropriate to the McGuire assortment."
The resulting collection is a unified offering that mixes materials, shapes and scale in a way that only Jacques Garcia could have envisioned. It is elegant yet approachable. All woven rattan pieces, dining, lounge and occasional, in this collection are available in a light Cognac finish or a dark Cordovan Matte finish. The upholstered pieces are available in fabrics from McGuire's Headlands Collection, a stain- and fade- resistant selection of rich weaves in a vast range of colors, or COM.
Sensuous and alluring, the Sorbonne Chair showcases Garcia's novel approach to classic design in a reinterpretation of a wingback chair, expertly rendered in a woven rattan peel. A generous curved back with a knife-edged cushion provides an inviting retreat protectively enclosed by high, dramatically scaled wings. Topped by a deep cushion, the low seat is supported by stout saber legs with brass foot caps.
Also included in the Jacques Garcia line are three lounge pieces that share the same understated flair and inviting quality: the Toboggan Lounge Chair, the Toboggan Sofa and the Toboggan Chaise. Fully woven rattan peel, topped with generous seat and back cushions, these pieces all employ the same low sloped arm, sinuous arched back and substantial base. Meticulously rendered and blissfully relaxing, these pieces are simple and refined.
Three occasional tables add a cheeky accent to the mix: the Lucky Table with a woven frame and the Lucky Low Side Table and Lucky Tall Side Table rendered in cast brass (also available as a dining table). The Lucky Tall Side Table is offered in a warm antique brass patina while the Lucky Low Side Table is offered in both the antique brass patina and smooth dark bronze patina. The woven Lucky Table is made up of three parts which come together to form a trefoil shape on top and descend into three points below. The Lucky Side Tables offer a perfect foil to the woven table, with their smooth surface and rounded hourglass figure. The trio of tables combines structure and material to elevate the occasional table to an art form.
Garcia is revered as an international force in the design world with projects such as the famed, five-star Hıtel Fouquet's Barriıre on Paris's Champs-Elysıes; the glamorous Hotel Metropole in Monte Carlo; and the hip Hotel Victor in Miami's South Beach in his portfolio. Garcia is much sought-after for his distinct blend of luxury, leisure and lasting chic.
