(San Francisco, March 2009) McGuire introduces a stunning new collection by Barbara Barry. It is as beautiful and inviting as it is elemental and spare. Simple in its sophistication, the 16-piece collection is highlighted by dramatic shapes, natural materials and exquisite comfort. The effortless dining, lounge and occasional pieces reference classic forms, executed with a modern twist. When materials such as rattan, antique brass and stone are paired with luxurious upholstery and French seams, the result is a multi-faceted collection high on both style and comfort.

By adding fine upholstery to McGuire's signature material, Barry has brought a new level of comfort to rattan furniture. The designs are strong and uncomplicated which speaks to the versatility of the material. "Today, more than ever, people are looking for simple sophistication: true comfort and quality craftsmanship resulting in a casual elegance," Barry explains. McGuire is known for delivering on that promise.

Inspired by the simplicity of understatement, classic design and the flexibility of rattan, Barbara Barry brings new shapes, ideas and materials to this new collection for McGuire. With a strong relationship that has spanned almost a decade, McGuire is pleased to add new pieces to the existing 30-piece Barbara Barry for McGuire collection.

These new pieces follow the success that began with the 2002/2003 collections: clean lines, generous scale and a few show-stopping forms. The finished result, when paired with luxurious fabrics and finishes, is one of style and grace.

Barry continues, "What I have been thinking about is simplicity; simplicity in our lives and simplicity in design. As a designer I am interested in the essential form, and, with this new collection for McGuire, we have married the elemental and the spare in a beautiful and inviting way. Comfort is as essential to me as form and has been a core tenet in all of my work."

Modern but not austere, warm but spare, Barry's designs create a comfortable mood in any setting. The collection is highlighted by a timeless arced Lunette Sofa, a striking dining setting and a dramatic Fretwork Lounge Chair. The Boxback Sofa complements the curves of the Lunette Sofa with a gently rounded back but angular arms and cushions. Both sofas come with a lounge chair counterpart.

Two additional lounge chairs complete the set: The Nonchalant, an understated form with a delicate scale and feminine proportions; and the Fretwork Lounge - a stunning, multi-faceted piece, graphic in form. All finished with expert tailoring, these pieces bring new life to both rattan and upholstery.

Three dining chairs are of classic design and ultimate comfort. When paired with the Fretwork Dining Table, a comfortable, elegant dining experience is created.

The collection is completed with a dramatic bed comprised of rattan, square mesh caning and luxurious upholstery - as well as four tables and a bench. The Flint cocktail and side tables have wrought antique brass frames and are topped with hand cut St. Petersburg limestone slabs. The Ellipse Cocktail table is aptly named, and is punctuated by a rattan frame, glass top, and caned shelf. A work crafted in striking simplicity, the Cats Cradle Bench serves many purposes from bedroom to living room and hallway. The straightforward upholstered cushion with top stitching details defies the intricate rattan and rawhide web for which it takes its name.
