McGuire Expands Outdoor Offerings | March 2009
SAN FRANCISCO (March 2009) - The McGuire Furniture Company, known for its contemporary interpretation of classic forms and best-in-class materials for indoor and outdoor living, continues to expand their outdoor assortment. 'The Outdoor Collections' includes 8 unique collections and 105 individual pieces that encompass a range of styles, materials and price points. The Garden Classics and Water Mill Wicker Collections debut this Spring.
The Outdoor Collections are:
The Spring '09 collections were designed by McGuire's in-house design studio and meet two different needs of the market: strong, spare, iconic forms executed in aluminum and a more traditional woven resin wicker. Both will be offered at an entry level price point. The expanded Outdoor category offers a diversity of scale, form and style; all are executed with resources that go lightly on the environment - plantation-grown teak, recyclable woven resin and aluminum generated from 80% recycled content.
THE GARDEN CLASSICS COLLECTION
The Garden Classics Collection interprets 11 of McGuire's beloved existing and retired indoor chairs and
tables for outdoor use. The 6 seating pieces and 5 tables are welded from wrought aluminum tubing. A
labor intensive process in precision, the material and craftsmanship partner to yield a strong, lightweight
form. As is the beauty of classic McGuire, the designs are timeless and flexible, making them appropriate
to mix with a range of styles. The Garden Classics will come standard in Bronze and Seashell White
finishes, as well as Cayenne inspired by the warm hue of The Golden Gate Bridge, an icon in McGuire's
hometown. The Garden Classics Collection will be offered at an entry level price point.
THE WATER MILL WICKER COLLECTION
The 10-piece Water Mill Wicker Collection is an innovative take on traditional wicker. Wicker refers to
the classification of weave on a piece of furniture; this weave is open, simplified and graphic. The visual
movement created in the open weave complements the curved lines of the chairs and tables. A sensible
balance between durability and ease of use, the collection is handcrafted of powder coated aluminum
frames and premium extruded woven resin. An addition to The Water Mill Wicker Collection is the
reclaimed teak farm house table. At home inside or out, it uses teak from 200 year old Dutch farm houses
in Indonesia. The traditional lines of the design celebrate the rich history of the teak's life, which is
evident from the nail holes, the figure of the grain, the size of the boards, and the color of the wood. The
width of the boards used in the design is significant; it reflects the spirit of the beams used in the Farm
houses themselves, honoring the teak's origin.
ARCHETYPE
In a move to support one of their most successful outdoor collections, McGuire turned to internationally
recognized designer Michael Vanderbyl to extend his existing Archetype collection from 14 to 24 pieces.
The assortment, originally introduced in 2000, features fluid, aluminum frames enhanced by a smooth,
lustrous platinum powder-coated finish and handcrafted teak latticework. The newly added sectional
pieces and club chair add a dimension of modularity and flexibility to the existing assortment and bring
luxurious comfort to a collection otherwise known for its simplicity of form.
AXIAL TEAK
Axial Teak nods back to the days of early aeronautical engineering with its deliberate angles and sleek
lines. This eight-piece collection is handcrafted of the finest quality plantation-grown teak and features
mortise and tenon joinery. The four generously scaled seating pieces - two dining chairs, a lounge chair
and chaise lounge - have a stately presence in teak. The four tables - Trestle Dining Table, Cocktail Table
and the similarly inspired Pedestal Dining Table and Spot Table - provide an understated silhouette to
any outdoor living environment.
THE JACQUES GARCIA OUTDOOR COLLECTION
The Jacques Garcia Outdoor Collection reflects the designer's gift for proportion and purity of line; the
collection showcases McGuire's unparalleled ability to bring a vision to life. This collection features 17
lounge, dining and occasional pieces, articulating Garcia's reputation throughout the design world for
creating settings and furnishings that seamlessly combine historic influences, sophisticated forms, and
elements from nature. When painstakingly rendered in woven resin, the result is a refined collection
replete with strength, character, durability and a lasting sense of style.
THE THOMAS PHEASANT OUTDOOR COLLECTION
After the success of his indoor collection for McGuire, Thomas Pheasant created a collection exclusively
for outdoor environments. The Thomas Pheasant Outdoor Collection is comprised of 17 pieces. Each
piece is handcrafted of woven resin fibers and powder coated aluminum frames. Inspired by classic
form, Pheasant approached these designs with the eye of an artist, creating pieces that are functional and
versatile, imparting strength of line and a timelessness that does not emphasize one era or style.
THE WATER COLLECTION BY ORLANDO DIAZ-AZCUY
The Water Collection is a harmonious balance of design-driven materials that results in sophisticated,
contemporary seating and tables for outdoor use. Elegant design, innovative functionality and
exceptional comfort are the hallmarks of the 8-piece collection, executed in powder coated aluminum.
Diaz-Azcuy's eye for architectural elements and reverence for the highest quality materials and
craftsmanship are reflected in this collection; each clean, artistic silhouette marries the designer's
appreciation for classic forms and desire for modern simplicity.
PORTICO TEAK
McGuire's relationship with Orlando Diaz-Azcuy has spanned well over a decade. He approaches all of
his designs from the perspective of an architect and a modernist. His eye for architectural elements and
admiration for the highest quality materials and craftsmanship are reflected in his Portico Teak
collection. Portico Teak is crafted from solid teak and finished with mortise and tenon joinery. Graphic
in form and modern in execution, Portico Teak has become classic McGuire.
