SAN FRANCISCO (February 2010) - The McGuire Furniture Company, known for its contemporary interpretation of classic forms and best-in-class materials for indoor and outdoor living, continues to expand their innovative and accessible Kitchen line. Launched in April of 2008, the 21 piece collection sought to introduce McGuire's tradition of uncompromising quality and artisan craftsmanship into a more casual, urban setting. The collection meets the need for thoughtfully scaled, transitional pieces derived from environmentally conscious materials. For their second offering, McGuire has partnered with renowned designers Barbara Barry and Thomas Pheasant.

Each designer created a 5 piece capsule collection that continue to push the boundaries of style and elegance in the Kitchen while maintaining the high level of performance and comfort set forth by its predecessor pieces. Crafted from the highest quality materials, but pared down to their most basic forms, these 10 pieces add drama and performance to the already successful line. This collection is now made up of 34 pieces and includes 8 tables and 16 chairs, 9 bar/counter stools and a settee.

Continuing her 8 year partnership with McGuire, Barbara Barry adds to the Kitchen Collection with five new pieces: an oval and round pedestal table, two side chairs and a dining settee. All five pieces have unique design qualities that allow them to live together in a group or mix with other pieces. "These new designs have a warmth to them that invite you to make a traditionally communal space more sophisticated and intimate while practical, "says Barry.

Barry's Classic Round and Classic Oval Pedestal Tables add a fresh point of view and refined sense of beauty to McGuire's Kitchen Collection. On each table, an ash and veneer pedestal sits in a nickel framed plinth base and supports a durable Staroný top. Well known for her appreciation of form and simplicity, Barry offers a delightful crisscross pattern on the Classic Cove chairs and settee making a lovely alliteration around a table. To add a touch of luxury, the Classic Cove side chair has also been paired with upholstery, creating clean lines and a comfortable presence. Each with a gracefully curved back, the seating pieces are of classic design and casual elegance. "I love how this new grouping invites conversation by embracing the table with the curved back of the chairs and the settee," Barry explains. These pieces showcase the best of Barbara Barry: strong, uncomplicated and graphic design executed with style and grace. Her passion for simple sophistication inspired the introduction of a new finish for McGuire - Stone - a gray as warm and inviting as the as the collection it surrounds.

Internationally acclaimed interior designer Thomas Pheasant took a nature inspired approach to his 5 additions to the Kitchen Collection. Focusing on two of McGuire's signature materials; rattan and rawhide, Pheasant created a vignette of two side chairs, two counter stools and a table. The assortment is an artistic exhibition of long, lean silhouettes with urban appeal. The Round Back Side Chair and Counter Stool are a study in geometric form; a circular support is encased in a rectangular back that gracefully ends in slightly tapered legs. The Laced Back Side Chair and Counter Stool juxtapose their more feminine round back counter parts with pre-stained strips of rawhide lashed in a rectangular shape at the top of the back. The Laced Frame Dining Table mirrors the masculine aesthetic of its Laced Back brethren, also boasting rawhide strips lashed around a steel and wood frame affixed in a cross like shape. The frame echoes the graceful arc seen on the chairs and stools as it bends to its conclusion at the floor. The architectural simplicity is evident throughout the pieces as well as Pheasant's ability to master elegance in smaller footprints, making this collection ideal for any kitchen space.
